Don’t Let Coupons Overwhelm You

Using coupons can be overwhelming if you have too many and don’t know what to do with them. I have a few tips on how you can get them clipped quickly, keep them organized, and never forget them at home when you head to the store! Every Sunday when you receive your paper with coupons, look through the inserts and decide what you will use and will not use. Cut the ones you will use and pass the rest to friends or family. You don’t want to just throw coupons away. Coupons are free money!

After you have clipped your coupons, place them in an envelope or mini accordion folder with tabs (beverages, dairy, meats, etc.) and organize them. The best place for that coupon holder is your purse or car! That way you always have them with you. If you start to realize that you have a growing collection of coupons, you can start a coupon binder. That is a very popular alternative to the accordion folder. All you need are some baseball card holders (you can find these at the check-out lanes at your local Walmart or Target), your binder, and divider pages.

A few things to check for on your coupons before using them:

  1.  Make sure the coupon is not expired. You are not allowed to use expired coupons anywhere in my area except for Bed Bath and Beyond because the stores will not be reimbursed for them from the coupon company.  If you acquire a stack of expired coupons, you can search for an expired coupon collection company who sends expired coupons to military families overseas. They are allowed to use their expired coupons up to 6 months after the expiration date.
  2. Make sure that you are allowed to use your coupons at the stores you plan on shopping at. If it says “Manufacturer Coupon,” it can be used ANYWHERE that accepts coupons. If it has a specific store name on it, you can only use it at that store. Some stores will accept competitor coupons, so I suggest calling to see if any of your local stores do that.

Coupons are great to use because they help save money and who doesn’t want to save money?  Get your supplies together, because your next batch of coupons will be here before you know it!
